  Trailhead - (7,800' ?) Rowell Meadow Trailhead near Horse Coral
  visited: August 26-29 (thurs-sun) 2004 (me, d, juan).  warm enuf for swim!

- Mt. Carmel
  Hike from the coast near big sur to top of Mt. Carmel, elev 4,417 ft
  9.8 mile roundtrip + 2,767 ft vertical, trailhead is at Botchers Gap
  30min south of carmel.

- Pinnacles Nat'l Monument
  Hot, south of san jose, good for winter time

  From Highway 280 in Santa Clara County, exit Page Mill Road. 
  Drive west to the junction with Skyline Boulevard (Highway 35). 
  Turn left and drive south on skyline blvd. about 1 mile, to the preserve entrance on the right side of the road [entrance is easy to miss]. 
  Park at the north lot (to the right).
